Did you know that around a third of all medicines in use to day come from plants?
Have you ever wondered why poisonous plants are poisonous, or what the link is between modern medicines and traditional herbal remedies?
These were just some of the things we found out about in our talk by Ian Brand. This talk has something for everyone, and is about more than just plants and medicine. There is history and geography along the way, but above all there are plenty of interesting stories.
Ian is a retired medical doctor who worked as a rural GP in his earlier life and later served 21 years as a consultant radiologist at Airedale Hospital. He has had a lifetime interest in botany and its link to medicine. He’s a long time member of Wharfedale Naturalists and writes regular “Nature Notes” for the Ilkley Gazette.
