Fish, Amphibians and Reptiles

Often less recorded than mammals and birds plenty of fish, amphibian and reptile species are still to be found in Rochdale borough.

Roach, Perch, Pike and Bream are the main fish in the rivers and canals but Tench, Carp, Chub, Gudgeon, Ruff, and Rudd may be found.

Brown Trout have also been seen in the town centre at the site of the newly opened River Roach.

Smooth, Palmate, and Great Crested Newts are here, with the Smooth being the most common.

Common Frog and Common Toad are also found throughout the borough.

Reptiles are more difficult to see but the Common Lizards and Slow-worms have been noted in the past, and Chrysemys scripta, the red-eared terrapin has been noted recently. Adders are often found in upland areas but have not been recorded recently.
