If you are looking for something to do whilst the COVID-19 restrictions are in place why not try the Plantlife Every Flower Counts Citizen Science Survey?
All you need for the survey is a lawn (although I think you could probably use a roadside verge ), a measure and yourself. All you do is find a random spot on your lawn, by throwing a tennis ball over your shoulder, and then mark out a one metre spot (a quadrat) where it lands. Then all you need to do is count the flowers within the quadrat area.
You can record one or more quadrats. Once Plantlife have your results you will get a Personal Nectar Score, showing the approximate amount your lawn produces per day, and how many honeybees this could support.
To increase your score it’s best not to mow your lawn in May. The survey takes place from 23 – 31st May and again from 11-19th July.
